Minor Oral Surgery (MOS) Service

What is the Minor Oral Surgery (MOS) Service?

The minor oral surgery service offers assessment, advice and minor oral surgery.  There is a range of accredited dental surgeons providing this service in dental surgeries and community hospitals across Suffolk.

Why has this service been set up?

The service gives you a wider choice of locations than previously and is designed to be more convenient to you and to offer shorter waiting times.  Your dentist has assessed you as suitable for treatment by this service which is available to you if you wish.

Will I receive the same standard of treatment if I opt for minor oral surgery rather than wait for a hospital appointment

Yes.  The minor oral surgery dental surgeons are required to practise to a standard consistent with all other NHS services that treat patients.  All dental surgeons providing this service have been accredited by NHS Suffolk.

How do I know the service is being run properly?

NHS Suffolk manages healthcare for people in Suffolk (excluding Waveney).  Each minor oral surgery dental surgeon will have a contract with NHS Suffolk.  This contract will be regularly monitored.

Can I still be seen at the hospital?

Yes, you can still opt to have your treatment at the hospital if you prefer.  Alternatively if you are seen within the minor oral surgery service and the dental surgeon decides your condition needs to be dealt with by the hospital he or she will refer you on as appropriate.

Will there be an additional charge for treatment?

No, you will not have to pay an additional charge for your treatment in the minor oral surgery service.
