Helping businesses in Suffolk save money

Businesses in Suffolk could save money and improve employee wellbeing by signing up for free health check sessions in the workplace.

Olive Quinton, NHS Suffolk’s health improvement facilitator said: “Businesses lose a staggering amount of money each year through employee sickness absence and reduced productivity due to ill health.

“National figures suggest that sickness absence cost businesses, on average, £692 per employee and in 2010 a total of £15.1 billion was lost through reduced productivity due to ill health

“The health checks are aimed at employees aged 40 to 64 who are registered with a GP in Suffolk.  The health check is carried out by a qualified nurse and consists of height and weight measurement, blood pressure testing and cholesterol testing.

“Getting employees health checked out makes sense for both the business and employee.  A health check can detect any underlying health issues and help prevent them becoming a problem in the future. This will bring about reduced levels of sickness absence, bringing with it financial savings for the business.

“A healthy employee will deliver improved efficiency and performance, better team work and reduce the likelihood of workplace conflict.

“There is no charge to businesses and we can arrange to come to a workplace of whatever size.”
